National Heroes Souvenir Sheet
9 February 1944

Postal clerks must have been given strict instructions to apply the cachet/cancel only on the middle of the souvenir sheets. Since stamps must be tied to first-day covers, the collector's solution was to cut-out the souvenir sheet to fit in the envelope and then had it cancelled. The meticulous Mr. Chinding had the censor mark and the registry label tied as well.

Each souvenir sheet was sold in the post office for P1.00.

5c Large Commonwealth Official
Surcharged on 6c Regular Issue of 1936
26 June 1944

Due to the atrocious price - one thousand times face value - of the first printing of the large Commonwealth - a second printing was released.

FDC's on the other hand, were not authorized by the Bureau of Communication. However, some enterprising collectors prepared unofficial FDC's by arranging it to be postmarked on the day of issue.

"The entire printing was sold out in the Manila Post Office in less than an hour and a half on the day of issue."
